RISING: Irish Tour And European Festival Run Kicks Off Next Week

Danish sludge metallers RISING are preparing for a tour across Ireland and Northern Ireland, on their way to tackle festivals in Denmark and Sweden later this month.

Set to embark on June 6th, RISING will storm four Irish cities before their performances at Copenhell Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark with the likes of Slayer, Mastodon, Anthrax, Immortal, Meshuggah and tons more, followed immediately by Hultsfred Festival in Hultsfred, Sweden with an eclectic lineup including The Cure, The Stone Roses, The XX, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators and countless others.

The crushing trio will present material from their acclaimed To Solemn Ash LP, released via Exile on Mainstream in Europe in late 2011 and on North American soil in January of this year. Recorded with producer Jakob Reichert Nielsen (Lack, Trust, Obstacles, etc.), the ten-track beast To Solemn Ash is fueled by a rigorous energy, replete with monstrous, hook-laden riffs, savage vocals and organic analog tones. RISING present their infectious sounds with an urgency and originality that warrants repeated listens and most definitely needs to be witnessed live!

6/07/2012 Kelly's Bar - Galway, Ireland

BARONESS' YELLOW & GREEN CONFIRMED FOR JULY 17 RELEASE

Baroness, the Savannah-based quartet whose two prior releases (Red Album and Blue Record) were awarded record of the year honors from both Revolver and Decibel Magazines as well as repeatedly placing on year-end best of lists from Pitchfork and Village Voice, return with a new album titled Yellow & Green on July 17 via Relapse Records.

Yellow & Green reunites Baroness with Blue Record producer John Congleton (Explosions in the Sky, St. Vincent, Xiu Xiu) following both the band's busiest period (multiple worldwide tours including stops at Coachella, Bonnaroo and Soundwave) and most luxurious year, having taken nearly all of 2011 off to freely write and demo for the 2CD/LP album.

"We had been on tour for eight years, and we decided to take a break from our adventure to dig our heels in at home and write a new record," explains John Baizley, front man for the band and the artist responsible for Baroness' now iconic album art (an article profiling Baizley as a graphic artist is in the April edition of Juxtapoz). "We spent the entirety of the past year dedicating ourselves to the new album. Without the break from touring and the time we took to rest and reflect, we would have been entirely unable to write this new record.. We have become re-inspired. Now it's time to get back out on the road."

Baizley also recently spoke with Alternative Press regarding the recording of Yellow & Green, which can be read here.

Baroness embark on their first tour dates since 2010 as they join Meshuggah for a Spring trek across North America, previewing material from Yellow & Green. Tour dates are:

SCION A/V RELEASES LEAD TRACK FROM MESHUGGAH'S KOLOSS

Scion A/V has partnered with Sweden’s extreme, technical metal band MESHUGGAH to bring fans an exclusive digital music download, limited edition 7”, behind-the-scenes footage from their upcoming North American tour, and a concert ticket giveaway. MESHUGGAH’s forthcoming album, KOLOSS, is set for a North American release on March 27th via Nuclear Blast. The lead track “I Am Colossus” is available to download now for free at scionav.com/meshuggah.

MESHUGGAH drummer Tomas Haake comments on the opening track:

“‘I Am Colossus’ is way more straightforward than the thrash metal we grew up with. At the same time, it does pose its own difficulties for us as players. It will probably be one of the first songs we attempt to play on tour. The solo - which is basically two long notes that are slow bends - just turned out beautiful. Such an understatement as a guitar solo. Sometimes a slow song is just as aggressive as a fast one.

A limited edition 7” will be available in black, clear, yellow, and white vinyl, and given away for free on MESHUGGAH’s upcoming tour, courtesy of Scion A/V.

“The opportunity to work with Meshuggah is something we’re very excited about,” says Jeri Yoshizu, manager of sales promotion for Scion. “As we continue to evolve our metal initiatives, a collaboration with a band this talented is a logical next step.”

MESHUGGAH is headlining “SCION A/V PRESENTS: The Ophidian Trek” tour with guests BARONESS & DECAPITATED, which kicks off April 29th. Confirmed dates are:

Additionally, a ticket giveaway to two winners will be done in each city along the tour via the ScionAV Twitter (@ScionAV) beginning March 21st. Each winner in each tour city will receive 1 free pair of tickets to the show. Sweepstakes instructions will be given March 21st on @ScionAV Twitter.

MESHUGGAH ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM TITLE

Sweden’s extreme, technical metal band MESHUGGAH have chosen KOLOSS as the title to their eighth studio album, set for North American release on March 27th and European release on March 23rd.

Drummer Tomas Haake has issued the following warning:

“As always, we try to take our music in a slightly different direction with each album and with KOLOSS we feel that we really nailed what we were going for. Organic brutality, viscera and groove all crammed into a 54-minute metalicious treat, best avoided by the faint of heart!!”

DECAPITATED: STUDIO REPORT #3

Polish technical death metal band DECAPITATED continue their work at Radio Gdańsk Studio in Poland recording their Nuclear Blast debut and follow-up to 2006’s Organic Hallucinosis

Guitarist & founding member Wacek "Vogg"Kiełtyka checks in once again from the studio:

Hi Everyone,
We are half-way through with guitar tracking. All is going according to the plan and in a few days we are starting with the bass. The guitars sound heavy yet very selective. I must admit we have come up with a very original sound that in my opinion resembles 'black storm clouds.'  Heinrich [bassist] is coming to the studio the day after tomorrow and we will crack on with the bass then. Malta is a very demanding engineer and he is controlling the whole situation meticulously. The new material is beginning to take its shape and it is getting more and more interesting. Take it easy folks!”

Preliminary song titles used for the recording sessions include:
-Slow
-Riff 1 Clean
-Diablo
-Hits
-Fast One (Need More!!!)
-7 Idea
-Witek Idea
-Chilis Assasin
-Clean Song

DECAPITATED’s fifth studio album is being produced by Wacek Kiełtyka and sound engineered by Malta Arkadiusz Malczewski.  Drums have been recorded with Daniel Bergstrand (BEHEMOTH, MESHUGGAH, DIMMU BORGIR, KEEP OF KALESSIN, DEFLESHED), who is also handling mixing duties.  The band will be self-releasing the new album in their native Poland.

DECAPITATED's line-up includes: Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka on guitar, Kerim "Krimh" Lechner (Thorns Of Ivy, Tone Intimacy) on drums, Rafał Piotrowski (Ketha, Forgotten Souls) on lead vocals, and Filip "Heinrich" Hałucha (Vesenia, Rootwater, Unsun, Masachist) on bass.
