The legendary NAPALM DEATH will be releasing their 14th studio album, Utilitarian, tomorrow (February 28th) in North America! To welcome the arrival of this grindcore masterpiece, the band has now posted a new video of Mark "Barney" Greenway discussing his favorite independent films. To watch the video, click here.

KING'S X drummer Jerry Gaskill suffers heart attack

Jerry Gaskill, drummer for legendary rockers KING'S X, suffered a heart attack Sunday, February 26, and was accordingly rushed to the hospital. After undergoing an emergency operation, Jerry was put in intensive care (where he currently remains).

In light of Jerry's sudden hospitalization, all upcoming North American tour dates for KING'S X have been cancelled. Jerry will be spending these days recovering back to full health so that he can hopefully join the band behind the drums at some point in the future.

The 5th Annual ROCKAPALOOZA Festival, Presented by Monster Energy Drink, Announces Full Line-Up

The 5^th annual ROCKAPALOOZA festival, presented by Monster Energy Drink, is pleased to announce the full line-up for this year’s festival. This year’s Monster Energy Stage features headliners Puddle of Mudd, and opening acts Saliva, Rehab, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and Emphatic. The second stage includes Wayne Static, Woe Is Me, Riven (formerly Motograter), Rotation, Sore Eyes, and Ghosts of August. ROCKAPALOOZA is also sponsored by the National Guard, Verizon Wireless, Budweiser, and Q106 FM.

The advance price of tickets for this year’s ROCKAPALOOZA is $30, while day of show tickets cost $35. All children under the age of 10 are admitted free, and the event is ALL AGES. This year, Jam Heads Party Deck passes are just $100 and include half off discounts on beer and food, free Monster Energy Drink, a meet and greet with Puddle of Mudd, Rehab, and Sore Eyes, and features a shaded area with seating. For regular attendees, Budweiser is offering $1 drafts from 10am-12pm. Doors open at 10am.

The festival will also host a free pre-party concert on Friday, June 22^nd at the fairgrounds featuring headliners Trapt and openers Sore Eyes. The free concert is also ALL AGES and doors open at 6pm.

Bands that have performed at ROCKAPALOOZA in the past include Sevendust, Crossfade, OTEP, Mushroomhead, Silverstein, Smile Empty Soul, and more. Past hosting and appearance duties have gone to Pauly Shore, Big Black and Bam Bam of MTV’s Rob & Big, and Big Cat from MTV’s Fantasy Factory. Last year, over 8,000 people attended the festival.

FEAR FACTORY Announce American Tour Dates

FEAR FACTORY today confirms their first tour dates for 2012. Set to begin in San Antonio on May 1, the tour’s initial dates include stops in Dallas, Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, and Denver among others. Joining FEAR FACTORY for the tour is Boston’s Shadows Fall, Kansas City-based The Browning, Riverside, California’s The Devastated, and Legacy Of Disorder from New Zealand. The tour will precede the release of FEAR FACTORY’s new album titled The Industrialist.

FEAR FACTORY recently announced the addition of bass player Matt DeVries. The Ohio native previously noted, “I have been asked to join one of my favorite bands. I have been a fan of FEAR FACTORY since 1992 and I could not be more excited to be part of this incredible band.” Guitarist Dino Cazares and vocalist Burton C. Bell noted, “we are very excited to have Matt playing bass for FEAR FACTORY. We feel he is a great addition to our touring line-up. He has been a friend for a very long time and he is a great musician who will be a perfect instrument in the FF machine.”

With rehearsals for the tour expected to start soon, the members of FEAR FACTORY are finishing details on their forthcoming new album expected for release early summer. Greg Reely has now completed the album’s mix. All that remains is final artwork and packaging. Regarding the new material, Cazares and Bell affirm, “this album perfectly captures the true nature of FEAR FACTORY. The industrial/metal blend is a strong return to our original concept for FEAR FACTORY."

The Industrialist follows 2010’s critically acclaimed Mechanize. Blabbermouth said, “this is the album fans have been waiting for…a fiery and evolved rebirth of the band that changed metal in the ’90s.” Revolver Magazine called Mechanize, “one of the best albums of the band’s career. DARK TRANQUILLITY is proud to present their new music video, "In My Absence"! Taken from their latest release, We Are The Void (2010), "In My Absence" is the band's fifth promo clip for the album, and it was filmed by the band themselves on the road, with guitarist Niklas Sundin (www.cabinfevermedia.com / www.adurolabs.se) taking care of the editing/post production duties. In regards to this video, Niklas Sundin comments: "I wanted to create a live video that would capture the energy of our show both from the audience's perspective as well as from the stage. To accomplish this, we headed out on our recent Europe/Russia tours equipped with a GoPro HD camera, which was mounted on various objects (guitar necks, vocal microphone, member's bodies etc.) on most of the shows. Despite probably looking pretty weird for those in the crowd that noticed the little device, we arrived home with a lot of interesting footage, and after a lot of editing we're happy to present the final result: A clip for 'In My Absence', filled with an energy and closeness out of the ordinary. Enjoy!"

The app brings George Harrison's private guitar collection to life through photographs, detailed descriptions, audio, and video footage. For the first time, with the help of unique 360° imaging by photographer Steven Sebring, fans can see the scratches, dings, and worn threads on the guitars as if they were themselves holding the instruments. The app features a number of Harrison's best known guitars, including the Gretsch G6128 Duo Jet, the Gibson J-160E, the Rickenbacker 360/12, the Fender Stratocaster named 'Rocky', the Ramirez Classical, the Fender Rosewood Telecaster, and the Zemaitis Lotus 12-String, Additional guitars will be added to the app in the future.

Scion A/V Set to Release New Melvins EP, Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees, on Mar. 13

Scion A/V has partnered with the Melvins for an EP titled Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees, a five-song collection that marks the band's first original material since their 2010 album The Bride Screamed Murder. The release will be available as a free download on Mar. 13 via Scionav.com, with "The War On Wisdom" streaming this Friday on Pitchfork.com.

The Melvins formed in 1983, kicking off what would be a seismic shift in heavy music and focusing the epicenter of modern music firmly on the Pacific Northwest for the next decade plus. The band blended punk, metal, hard rock to create a new subgenre that has been tagged with a variety of labels including sludge, grunge and doom and won a cult of fans that have yet to waiver some twenty-nine years into the band's career. Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover have been the band's constants (Crover joined in 1984) with Big Business' Jared Warren and Coady Willis joining the band in 2006 for (A) Senile Animal.

TOAD: Arizona Metal Miscreants Announce March Tour

Phoenix, Arizona metal miscreants TOAD are set to embark on a live takeover next month. The punishment will begin on March 2 in Tempe and wind its way through 15 cities before coming to a ceremonial close in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The band will be joined by a host of eclectic bands throughout the tour including Lo-Pan, Sons Of Tonatiuh, Black Market Ministry and more.

Commented the band in a collective statement: “TOAD has long been preparing for this moment, and the time has finally come. This journey will lead us into uncharted territory and will spark the widespread corruption of anyone and everyone that is either willing or unfortunate enough to participate. We are confident that this experience will be only the beginning of the debauchery and mayhem that is yet to come.”

TOAD — short for “Take Over And Destroy” — will be touring in support of their criminally underrated five-track Rotten Tide EP, self-released last year. Flaunting a fully analog recording, the monolithic offering was produced by Bob Hoag at Flying Blanket Recording and features the exclusive use of vintage gear from the ‘60s and ‘70s to create “a true rock ‘n’ roll sound.” An underground masterwork of sorts, Rotten Tide has created a stir amongst scene diehards in the know. Said Metal Storm in a 9.4/10 review: “It's got that raw, grooving rock n roll appeal that you'll find with the likes of Bison B.C. combined with the grim psychedelic feel offered by few others than Nachtmystium.” Added The Sleeping Shaman: “Rotten Tide comes across like the bastard son of Entombed with its spit-in-your-eye attitude and brash swagger. It’s rough and raw, whilst managing to sound decently produced…it grooves, it has dark psychedelia, it’s catchy, it’s unhinged; there is a mash up of punk, black metal, crazy treble picking, utterly abrasive and yet catchy.” The Obelisk agreed: “Rotten Tide blends a variety of styles from bombastic hardcore metal to post-Mastodonic technicality, and — perhaps most curiously of all — a preference for analog recording that’s almost entirely absent from the larger scope of modern metal. “

JOHN 5 is pleased to announce the new release date for his impressive upcoming full-length solo CD/DVD, God Told Me To. The CD/DVD will be released through Rocket Science Ventures and Sony/RED on May 8^th, 2012—just days before he heads out to perform with Rob Zombie on their upcoming co-headliner with Megadeth (see below for tour dates). God Told Me To was recorded and produced by JOHN 5, Chris Baseford (Rob Zombie, Tommy Lee) and Bob Marlette (Sebastian Bach, Black Sabbath) in 2011. The cover art for the album is illustrated by none other than Rob Zombie, who is also tapping JOHN 5 to score the entirety of his upcoming film, ‘The Lords of Salem’.

JOHN 5 doesn’t just play the guitar. His guitar is an extension of his soul and through it his music has become the Frankenstein birth penetrating the ear drums of fans and admirers worldwide. PHILM SIGN WITH IPECAC, ANNOUNCE MAY 15 RELEASE FOR DEBUT ALBUM "HARMONIC"

PHILM, the Los Angeles power trio featuring Slayer's Dave Lombardo, War's Pancho Tomaselli and Gerry Nestler of Civil Defiance, have signed to Ipecac Recordings and will release their debut album, Harmonic, on May 15.

"When people hear about my involvement in PHILM, they automatically assume that it will compare to Slayer's sound," explains Lombardo. "They couldn't be more different. I have scaled down my drum set to a four-piece, reminiscent of the drummers from the late '60s that influenced me. Each song is unique in itself, I like to refer to it as 'rhythmic emotion." It's almost like taking all the heavy songs of the '60s and bringing that era to a modern plateau, then blending them with the modern trance and psychedelic sounds of today."

"We decided to record Harmonic in the intimate setting of a home, with various vintage recording equipment. " says Lombardo on the band's debut album. "The music was written collectively in an improvisational manner, unlike the majority of recordings I've done before. This was very important given this is my first recording where I'm carrying the title of Producer and performer. The album achieves a dense, unholy convergence of tones and discords. We also touch on haunting, desolate, ambient sounds. Our music tends to be written in a manner where we never know the outcome until we listen back to what we recorded. A Harmonic journey."

A highly anticipated release, PHILM officially took form in late 2010 with a handful of tour dates and an early four-song demo that quickly began to make the rounds of in-the-know music critics. Noisecreep said the band "has crafted a crunchy, thrashy, yet thoroughly unclassifiable sound" and the OC Weekly said of the trio: "PHILM's ability to melt down metal influences and mix them with the elements of funk, ambient jazz and punk... is potent and has left audiences wondering how so much noise could emanating from just three musicians."

Beak share promo video for debut album "Eyrie" (Apr. 3 release, Chicago metal quartet); New tour dates announced

Beak, the post-metal quartet formed by local Chicago luminaries Chris Eichenseer and Jason Goldberg previously of The Timeout Drawer, have created a clip highlighting music from their forthcoming debut album, Eyrie (Apr. 3, Someoddpilot Records), which can be seen here: http://vimeo.com/37183154.

The band has also shared the cover art for Eyrie which was created by Eichenseer, a sought after graphic artist who has done artwork for American Heritage, Caural, Elliot Lipp and others. The album cover photo was shot outside of Monterrey, Mexico where Eichenseer was teaching a course on graphic design.

Recorded and mixed in late-2011 at Engine Studios by Neil Strauch (Sage Francis, Bonnie Prince Billy), the five-track release highlights the band's adept combination of blistering heaviness and melodic prog-rock.

"Metal for the sake of it just doesn't interest us. We need more than heavy riffage and the trappings of the genre," expained Eichenseer. "I wish we could call it something else, because to me it's more. We're not afraid to carry influence from our roots in post to punk rock. We're very aware of storytelling and depth. We're not interested in skulls."

Vocalist Jon Slusher discussed the conceptual aspect of the debut album: "Eyrie is the nest of a bird of prey built in a high, inaccessible place. The album is conceptual. It's the path of ruin, the crumbling of empires and the marching of time. "

HULL Announce Mini Spring Tour; Band To Level Austin At SXSW

The Cult To Headline SXSW Auditorium Shores Stage on 3/17

The Cult will make its 2012 concert debut when the band plays the South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival next month, headlining the Auditorium Shores Stage on Saturday, March 17. The Auditorium Shores Stage show will be free and open to the public, and The Cult will take the stage at 8:00PM.

"SXSW is thrilled that The Cult is returning to play our biggest stage at Auditorium Shores," said Darin Klein, SXSW Festival Producer. "We're excited to hear their new tunes and their classic hits. 12 STONES READY TO SHOW WHAT’S ‘BENEATH THE SCARS’ WITH THEIR INFECTIOUS NEW ALBUM OUT MAY 22

12 STONES will release their fourth album, BENEATH THE SCARS, May 22 on the Executive Music Group label via Fontana/Universal. The band joined forces, once again, with producer Skidd Mills (Saving Abel, Skillet, Saliva), who had previously worked with 12 STONES on 2007’s ANTHEM FOR THE UNDERDOG. The first single, “Infected,” mixed by Johnny K (3 Doors Down, Disturbed, Staind), is currently being serviced to Rock radio and will be available for download on iTunes and Amazon on February 28.

Fans who pre-order of BENEATH THE SCARS from band’s official website (www.12stones.com) will have early download access to six songs starting March 6. The rest of the album will then be made available on May 22.

Metalocalypse Co-Creator Announces New Side Project: BRENDON SMALL’s GALAKTIKON

BRENDON SMALL is the co-creator/ writer/ actor/ director/ producer/ of ADULT SWIM'S METALOCALYPSE television series. Brendon Small is also responsible for writing and performing all of the show's music and DETHKLOK: THE DETHALBUM and DETHALBUM II, the latter now known as the fastest-selling death metal album to date.

Now, Brendon has written and produced BRENDON SMALL's GALAKTIKON: "A High Stakes Intergalactic Extreme Rock album", his long-awaited side project set to release in April 2012. The album release will coincide with the Season 4 premiere of METALOCALYPSE.

Coming off of the second DETHKLOK album which was heavier and darker than the first, BRENDON SMALL’s GALAKTIKON searches for melody (in the vocal) and finds inspirations in modern black metal, Queen, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer. No influence is unwelcome on this project. Rob Zombie, Megadeth Announce Co-Headline Tour

SABATON: NEW ALBUM DETAILS REVEALED

Swedish epic metallers SABATON will release their sixth studio album Carolus Rex in North America on May 22^nd and in Europe on May 25^th. The theme of the album is the Swedish Empire; lyrical references are to the Kingdom of Sweden between 1561 and 1721 and are sung entirely in Swedish.

“For the first time ever, we have had an expert to help us out with the theme, the well-known Swedish historian Bengt Liljegren. We have also added some extra time in the studio to find the absolute right sound on Carolus Rex, and our producer, Peter Tägtgren, says that this album will mark a brand new standard for how a heavy metal album should sound like!”

ELUVEITIE Release Making of "Havoc" Video!

Swiss new wave of folk metal icons ELUVEITIE have released a short documentary on the making of their video clip for the song "Havoc". Check out what went into making the video here.

"Havoc comes off the bands highly anticipated upcoming album Helvetios. The video was produced by Polish production company Grupa13 (BEHEMOTH, AMON AMARTH) who has worked with the band most recently on the clips for “A Rose For Epona” and “Thousandfold“ - the latter coming off the last album, Everything Remains... As It Never Was.
Helvetios will be released on February 28 in North America via Nuclear Blast. Pre-order the album with or without an exclusive shirt design from the following locations Nuclear Blast USA, Nuclear Blast Europe, iTunes, Amazon (US).

MOTHER’S GREEN Announces Release of New Album ‘Swimming In The Sun’

Canadian eclectic rock outfit MOTHER’S GREEN recently released their brand new full-length album, Swimming in the Sun. This album comes as a follow-up to the band’s first full-length, self-titled release, which hit stores in Canada in 2008. For Swimming in the Sun, founding member, vocalist and guitarist March Ciaccari tapped drummer Dean Glover, percussionist Greg Noguera, and bassist Mike Simpson. The album was recorded at BWC Studios (The End, Moneen) in Toronto. The album was then mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (Converge, Mastodon) in New York.

Shortly after recording, bassist Nick Tipe entered the band to handle bass duties in the place of Mike Simpson. Swimming in the Sun was completed with no label support, and the band continued on to self-finance their new video for ‘Observation for the Day’, cut from the new album.

IRON MAIDEN ANNOUNCE "MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR" WITH EXTENSIVE DATES IN NORTH AMERICA THIS SUMMER

Following the massively successful Final Frontier World Tour 2010-11, IRON MAIDEN are back on the road this summer with a series of Arena, Amphitheatre and Festival shows in the U.S.A. and Canada, opening in Charlotte, NC, U.S.A. on June 21, and finishing in Houston, TX, on Aug 18 (dates listed below), to be followed by further dates around the World in 2013. The MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR will closely mirror, in terms of production and content, the original 1988 concert video of the same name, shot on the Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tour. This opening section of the World Tour is the bands most extensive visit to North America for many years and includes a number of cities the band have not played in a very long time, such as Charlotte, Atlanta, Buffalo, Indianapolis and Salt Lake City.

MAIDEN ENGLAND marks the third chapter in the History of Iron Maiden, a journey which began in 2004 with The Early Days DVD and subsequent 2005 Early Days Tour. Part Two followed in 2008 with the Live After Death DVD - the seminal 1984 concert recorded at Long Beach Arena (L.A) during the World Slavery Tour - and the band embarking on their groundbreaking Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008/9, which saw them play to over two million fans in almost 40 countries.

Comments vocalist Bruce Dickinson, We have great fun playing the History of Maiden Tours because it gives us an opportunity between new albums to go out and play songs from our earlier catalogue. Its always fantastic seeing the crowd reaction from a new generation of fans who have never experienced some of these tracks performed live before, and of course we know our longstanding fans will enjoy seeing the original Seventh Son Tour re-visited - with many other surprises! Our intention is to play about two thirds of the original track list of Maiden England (shown below*), including some songs we have not played live in a very,very long time, plus other favourites we just know the fans are going to want to hear! We always try to give our fans a great show musically, but we have always tried to make it as entertaining and memorable an experience as we can visually. And we all feel this show is going to do that splendidly! We can't wait to get started in Charlotte.

Iron Maiden are delighted to announce that the extraordinary and legendary Alice Cooper** will be their Very Special Guest on all shows up to July 21. After that date, Special Guest will be Coheed and Cambria***, the inspiring, cutting edge band from New York.

Iron Maiden continue to be actively dedicated to ensuring their fans always have full access to the best possible tickets in the fairest possible way. Manager Rod Smallwood comments:

We are trying to ensure that our fans get the tickets they want in the prime positions without paying over the odds to ticket scalpers. Maiden get infuriated with the way fans sometimes have to pay more than the ticket price to get good positions at our shows. So we will, wherever possible (Festivals excluded), with the assistance of the Promoters, arrange a paperless ticketing system at least for the front sections to try to eliminate as much of the ticket scalping and exchanges as we can. We put this into practice on our North American Tour in 2010; it worked well and we received many positive comments back from our fans, so we intend to increase this where feasible. With paperless ticketing, only those who actually pay initially for the tickets will get into the show so scalping is generally avoided (please see the comments from Ticketmaster below). We are also doing everything we can to avoid any drain of prime tickets going to the Secondary Ticketing sites which we feel make unfair profits from music fans.

As we consider all our fans to be VIPs, no tickets will be held specifically for VIP use. At some venues, the Promoter may provide the option for fans to pay extra for VIP Parking, early access, access to VIP Bar etc. But these will be purely optional for ticket holders only and will not be tied to ticket locations the ability to get the best tickets should be the same for everybody outside of the usual presales.

Finally, we are of course once again arranging exclusive ticket pre-sales for our fan club members so they can be quick off the mark for great tickets and will also continue to run the contest in appropriate venues for fan club members so they can be First To The Barrier prior to the show. We hope that these measures will help our fans as much as possible and ask that they keep checking for details on our website.

LAMB OF GOD Added to Norway’s Hove Festival

Due to the overwhelming response to LAMB OF GOD’s Resolution CD in Norway, the band has been asked to appear June 26^th at the Hove festival in Norway. Their appearance at the festival will necessitate the rescheduling of the June 26^th Zagreb, Croatia show at the Boogaloo and the June 27^th Ljubljana, Slovenia show at Kino Siska. Both shows will be rescheduled to be part of LAMB OF GOD’s planned European/UK tour for February/March 2013.

EXCITER: Massacre Records Release Latest Album In North America

Massacre Records is proud to bring the latest album from long running Canadian thrashers EXCITER an official North American release.

Since helping to forge the North American thrash movement in the '80s EXCITER's layered 34-year career has elevated them to legendary status, and their most recent album, 2010's Death Machine delivers nine-songs of the expected headbashing mayhem fans worldwide have come to expect from the outfit. Featuring founding guitarist and mastermind John Ricci, singer Kenny Winter, bassist Rob Cohen and drummer Rich Charron, EXCITER once again worked with longtime producer Manfred Leidecker who produced nearly all of the band's releases since 1990. Carina Round Releases "Tigermending" on May 1

Carina Round, the eclectic LA-by-way-of-England singer, whom the LA Weekly recently said of: "Just when you think you have her pegged as a smart, sensitive and tuneful singer-songwriter type, she'll break into some freaky art-rock experimentation that raise goose bumps on your arms," is set to release Tigermending, an 11-track album produced by Round and Dan Burns on May 1 via Dehisce Records (distributed through The Orchard).

"Making my home in the creative circus of Los Angeles has allowed me the profound opportunity to develop a loving and supportive community of brilliant musicians, artists, photographers, videographers and other collaborators. I’ve been fortunate to work with and learn from some of my favorite artists old and new, which has opened me up to new roads of expression," explains Round. Collaborators on Tigermending include Dave Stewart and Brian Eno ("The Secret of Drowning") and Billy Corgan ("Got To Go - The L.A Song- 2000 years BC mix").

Written and recorded in 2011, Round describes the period working on Tigermending as one of "time and freedom to experiment and explore," which gave each song a unique personality, ranging from "guitar ragers, acoustic beauties, electronic epics, a little prog moment and all the good stuff in between with a strong backbone running through the whole record."

As Puscifer's opener on recent North American treks Round re-introduced herself to fans and critics with an incredibly strong reaction from both. FEAR FACTORY Announce New Bassist

FEAR FACTORY today confirm Matt DeVries as the band’s new bass player. DeVries, previously of Chimaira and most recently Six Feet Under, joins the band replacing Byron Stroud. The announcement comes as the band continues work on their upcoming new album, planned for release early Summer. The album is currently being mixed in Canada by Greg Reely while artwork for the album’s packaging is nearly complete.

DeVries comments: “I have been asked by Dino and Burton to join one of my favorite bands. I have been a fan of

FEAR FACTORY since 1992 and I could not be more excited to be part of this incredible band. We have shared the stage many times together and now I’m beyond stoked to be on the same stage playing together. Thank you to all my fans worldwide for sticking by me and I will be seeing you all on the road very soon.”

Guitarist Dino Cazares and vocalist Burton C. Bell note: “We are very excited to have Matt playing bass for FEAR FACTORY. We feel he is a great addition to our touring lineup. He has been a friend for a very long time and he’s a great musician who will be a perfect instrument in the FF machine.”

FEAR FACTORY’s new album will follow 2010’s highly regarded Mechanize. Royal Thunder "CVI" Set For May 22 Release on Relapse Records

Royal Thunder, the Atlanta four-piece Brooklyn Vegan described as "Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde fronting Black Sabbath," have completed recording their debut album, CVI. The album will be released on CD/2xLP/Digital on May 22 via Relapse Records.

"We poured all of our hard work and passion into this 10-song LP," says vocalist/bass player Mlny Parsonz of the band's mid-2011 recording sessions at Aria Recording Studio in Marietta, Ga. "We saw highs and lows along the way, but in the end we made it. We made something we are so proud of. We look back on our past efforts and take with us the good, and strive to keep going and growing. We can't wait to see what the future holds and we hope this new album is an inspiration and light in the lives of everyone who listens to it."

The band, which includes the aforementioned Parsonz as well as founder Josh Weaver (guitar), Lee Smith (drums) and Josh Coleman (guitar) will join Black Tusk for a half dozen dates leading up to performances at SXSW (specific showcase information to be announced shortly). Royal Thunder will also perform at this Saturday's Scion Relapse Showcase at The Roxy in Los Angeles.

Royal Thunder released a self-titled EP in 2010 which won praise from a wide variety of outlets including Paste Magazine ("blues-infused rock'n'roll, wrapped in protective barbed-metal packaging"), NPR ("a revved-up Southern hard-rocker that howls like Led Zeppelin astride a psychedelic unicorn") and Terrorizer ("'Royal Thunder' grabs you right from the first listen").

Van Halen have just released a clip featuring David Lee Roth interviewing the Van Halen brothers, Eddie and Alex. They describe in detail the stories behind their musical upbringing in Holland and journey to Southern California. The clip can be seen here.

Earlier in the week the band released A Different Kind of Truth, which is their first original studio album with singer David Lee Roth since the band's classic multi-platinum album 1984. The band have also released a video for lead single "Tattoo" which can be seen here.

Van Halen have also announced their return to the live stage with an extraordinary 2012 North American tour. The announcement was made during a once-in-a-lifetime performance at the intimate Café Wha? in New York City. Known around the world for some of the most iconic live performances in music history, the legendary rock band will begin their tour on February 18. Kool & The Gang will join Van Halen for select tour dates.

Attaloss to release self-titled album on April 10, 2012

Los Angeles modern rockers Attaloss are releasing their self-titled album on April 10, 2012, via Rock Ridge Music/Warner Music Group/ADA. Their new record showcases two sides of the band, the high energy blown out rock side and the stripped down acoustic side. Although the band name is a play on a common phrase many of us hear every day, there is an underlying message of optimism: “Even in these tough times, we must have hope for a better tomorrow,” states singer Danny Aguiluz. The band line-up also includes: Chris Johansen – Guitar, Matt Geronimo – Guitar/Vocals, Lorenzo Perea – Bass, and Dakota Clark – Drums.

Danny, Chris, Lorenzo, and Dakota all left their respective hometowns and moved to Los Angeles to chase their rock and roll dream. Once they decided to join forces together they began the arduous task of trying to come up with a band name. After kicking around hundreds of potential names, they got news that their rehearsal studio was broken into and all their music gear was stolen. “Getting news like that was such a kick in the gut that we literally were at a loss for words. We realized in that moment that we had our band name,” said guitarist Chris Johansen who immediately began tracking down the thief. With Chris’ help police apprehended the suspect a few months later and the band’s gear was recovered mostly intact. Instruments in hand, they recorded the first five songs on the album in early 2011 and set out on tour around the country playing shows with such acts as Neon Trees, Smashing Pumpkins, and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. Realizing they weren’t quite capturing their recorded sound live, they added guitarist/vocalist Matt Geronimo and headed back into the studio to record the acoustic half of the record as a five piece.

With a high energy live show the band is excited to get back out on the road and bring their new music to the thousands of fans that have been constantly tweeting for them to play in their city. The band plans to tour heavily in support of the new album (see tour dates below). “The fans have been amazingly supportive. This journey has been a real roller coaster ride but we have come out of it stronger than ever,” continues Danny. “Hopefully that message comes across and inspires people to continue chasing their dreams. Today is an ‘Open Door.’”

BORKNAGAR's mastermind Øystein G. Brun checked in to comment about the song:

"In regards to the depth, diversity and magnitude of our new album, 'Urd', it almost feels painful to slice off just a tiny bit of the bloody roast for the very first official 'starter'. I would argue that each and every song on the new album stands on solid ground, but as usual with our music, the songs empower each other in the context of a full album.

That said, 'Roots' is probably the song on the album that gives you the most representative impression of 'Urd'. Musically it contains most of the elements that framework the musical universe of BORKNAGAR, and lyrically this song is gnawing on the very spine of our lyrical tradition. Hope you enjoy this song, the first tiny glimpse into our new opus. The beast is about to be unleashed..."

The album's artwork was designed by Brazilian artist Marcelo Vasco (www.P2RDESIGN.com), who has not only already worked on the band's previous Universal release, but also with artists such as SOULFLY, BELPHEGOR, EINHERJER, and KEEP OF KALESSIN. The mixing duties for the album were taken care of by Jens Bogren at Sweden's Fascination Street Studios (OPETH, PARADISE LOST, KATATONIA, etc.).
